When to Go FOR A Special Hand?

When do you decide to try for a Special Hand? Are you a player that checks every hand to see if there is a pattern? Does it matter what the score is? Does it matter what pairs/triples you have? How do you make the decision? And what hands do you typically play? All of them or just the basic ones (Pairs, Straight, Zip Code)? What would make you try for others?

RE: Aces and Sevens
When we play, unless you have 2, you do not discard one unless necessary at the end to break up a pair. It is always the case that if the Robot picks the pack with multiple of either, that I throw in/break up my pair. I DO NOT THINK the robot plays that way because it comes up that the opponents pick the pack and make the special cananast. What are the rules for Aces and Sevens of this application?

The technology behind the AI for Canasta Junction is incredibly complex. Assume that the Robot can count better (more accurately and more often!) than we can! The Robot will hold a pair of Aces and 7s just as you would (and described). The Robot (either your partner or if playing with ACE, the other team) will never pick the pack WITH an Ace or 7 unless they know that they can complete it. Likewise, it would be very unusual for you to see the Robot start an Aces or 7s Canasta if they can't complete it (calculated by how many they have in their hand and were in the pack and/or in your hand as shown by your discards).
